Men's Basketball Philosophy

It has been said that for a coach it is not so much what one teaches, but what one emphasizes that really counts.  At Trinity, our primary emphasis is on developing character in each student-athlete, and to assist them in understanding that our lives take on true purpose and real meaning only through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  Understanding this truth is the foundation behind everything we do.

We believe that our God is worthy of our praise even on the basketball court.  In Colossians 3:23, scripture calls us to do our very best in all things, because we are working for the Lord and not for men.  Giving anything less than an all out effort would not be honoring to God.  We therefore emphasize that each student-athlete gives his absolute best for God in all things, as we collectively strive to become the best.  Winning is not the ultimate goal, but will be the inevitable by-product of our unyielding commitment to giving our best and to becoming the best.  In order to accomplish this we will be:

            * Christ-like in our character

            * relentless in our effort

            * diligent in our preparation

            * enthusiastic in our approach

These traits will be constants in our program, without regard to the score, opponent, referees, etc...  As we display these characteristics, good things will inevitably result: teams are successful, players are motivated and proud to be a part of the program, fans are supportive, the community takes notice, and ultimately non believers are drawn to Christ.  Becoming the best may not always be the final result, however giving our best must be!
