The #8-seeded Trojans faced #9 Oakland City University in the tournament opener. After leading 3-1 late in the ballgame, OCU benefited from some Trojan jitters to take the lead and went on to win 7-3. The second game of the World Series brought on the #5-seed Indiana Wesleyan University. TIU trailed 6-1 in the sixth, but the Trojans rallied to tie the contest at 6-6 in the bottom half of the inning. IWU scored 2 in the top of the 7th with a 2-out pinch hit double to make it 8-6. But TIU still had fight in them scoring another run in the bottom of the 7th with runners at second and third with 2 outs, but failed to score. Funny thing is that it was supposed to be a home game for RMC, but they could not get their field ready in time for the contest, so the game was moved to TIU. Senior Ryan Hutchins pitched the first game and did a fine job, throwing a complete game. Despite the Eagles scoring 4 unearned runs in the first couple of innings, Hutch fought through and held RMC to just 2 runs over the final innings. The Trojan bats never woke up as Trinity fell 0-6. The second game was similar to the first. Freshman Frank Gross gave up 3 runs in the first inning and then held the Eagles scoreless for the remainder as he also went the distance for the Trojans. But TIU could only muster 1 run on the day as the squad fell 1-3 in the nightcap. TIU will host Olivet Nazarene on Friday, April 1st in a CCAC doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM. March 28, 2005Baseball began their season with their annual trip to Florida over Spring Break. Last year, the team did not see much success as they returned without a win, but this season is a much different story. Not only have they eclipsed last season's Spring Break mark, but their season total of 4 when they returned with a record of 5-5. They opened the trip with a loss to Clearwater Christian, but rebounded to defeat Southern Virginia 5-4. The team would go on to lose their next 3 games, but then put together a streak and won 4 of their last 5 games while in Florida. Since returning from Florida, it has been difficult for the Trojans to find dry ground to play on. When they did, TIU continued their winning ways with an 8-5 win over Eureka College. The team then traveled to Davenport, IA to face a tough St. Ambrose squad and dropped all 4 of a weekend series, although playing the tough Bees very close.
