2003 TIU Baseball News August 1, 2003Mike Manes will fulfill the duties of Head Baseball Coach and Director of Sports Information for football. He brings a wealth of experience to the position, having coached senior high American Legion baseball for 25 years, the last 12 of which have been spent in Lincoln, Nebraska. During his tenure there, his teams have appeared in 8 state tournaments, winning once and placing second twice. Manes graduated from Liberty University with a degree in Church Ministry/Christian Education. He has served as a youth leader in his church, and he and his wife, Connie, are the parents of four adult children. Coach Manes' acceptance of the position at Trinity fulfills for him a lifelong dream to coach college baseball. "I'm looking forward to getting started," he said. "I've enjoyed meeting some of the players, and so far they sound ready to play. I expect our team to play hard with good, sound fundamentals, and to entertain our fans with an aggressive style." Manes and his wife are set to relocate to the Chicago area and assume responsibilities on August 24th. March 5, 2003TIU opened the season in Florida against Evangel College, notching a 5-4 victory with two out in the seventh inning on a single by Jeremy Paul to drive in Ryan Klyn. TIU continues its Florida tour with 8 more games in the next week, before returning home to snowbound Illinois.
